What is Baby Alpaca?

Although it sounds adorable, baby alpaca doesn't come from baby alpacas. It refers to the finest, softest wool obtained from the first shearing of a young alpaca, usually between 6 months and 2 years old. This fiber is considered a natural luxury for its silky texture, lightness, and ability to provide warmth without being heavy.

Free life in the Peruvian Andes

Alpacas inhabit the high mountains of Peru , in regions such as Puno, Arequipa, and Cusco, at over 3,500 meters above sea level. They are peaceful animals, free-range, and part of a balanced ecosystem that has endured for centuries. Their breeding, managed by Andean indigenous communities, is sustainable, respectful, and a part of their daily lives.

Once a year, during the warmer season, hand shearing is carried out, a practice that does not harm the animal and allows its precious wool to be collected.

The artisanal process behind each scarf

1. Shearing : Only the finest fiber is collected, coming from the back and sides of the young alpaca.

2. Cleaning : Wool is washed with warm water and mild soaps to remove impurities without damaging the fiber.

3. Hand spinning : Using spindles and distaffs, spinners transform fiber into yarn.

4. Natural dyeing (optional) : We use Andean roots, leaves and flowers to achieve warm and earthy tones.

5. Weaving : Each scarf is woven by hand or on traditional looms. The result: unique pieces with an Andean soul.
